Manchester United are reportedly targeting Everton’s rising star, Jarrad Branthwaite, as a key defensive signing for the summer transfer window, with a potential deal hinging on their success in the Europa League.
As United prepares for their April clash with high-flying Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, focus is also turning to their transfer ambitions. The Red Devils are currently in the thick of a battle to secure Champions League qualification, with winning the Europa League possibly being their best chance to achieve that goal. United will face French side Lyon in the competition's quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, it seems United's pursuit of Branthwaite, 22, could be influenced by whether they secure Champions League football for next season. Branthwaite, who joined Everton from Carlisle United in 2020, has impressed during loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven. The defender has made 78 appearances for Everton and his solid performances have drawn interest from top clubs, including United.
Last summer, United made two bids for the young centre-back, but both were rejected by Everton. However, the club has continued to monitor Branthwaite’s progress and is expected to make a fresh approach this summer.
