Chelsea and Liverpool Battle for €75m Ademola Lookman as Premier League Transfer Saga Heats Up

Chelsea and Liverpool are both reportedly preparing to battle it out for Atalanta BC’s star winger, Ademola Lookman, with both Premier League giants ready to offer as much as €75 million (£63.2 million) to secure his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old former Fulham player has been a standout performer for Atalanta since joining the Italian club, becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after talents. His memorable hat-trick in Atalanta’s historic Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season was just the beginning of what has been a sensational run of form. Lookman has continued to shine this season, netting 18 goals and providing 7 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

With his current contract set to expire in 2026, Lookman’s future at Atalanta has come into question, especially following reports of a fallout with head coach Gian Gasperini. If Atalanta chooses not to activate a one-year extension option, Lookman could be set to leave this summer. A return to the Premier League could be Lookman’s preferred option if he departs Atalanta, and with his fractured relationship with Gasperini, a move seems increasingly likely. Atalanta is expected to struggle turning down such a lucrative offer, especially since Lookman is unlikely to commit to a new long-term contract with the club.

Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 for just €9.4 million (£7.9 million), Lookman has been a revelation, scoring 50 goals and providing 22 assists in 110 appearances. His versatile playing style, capable of operating as a right winger, left winger, second striker, or even a centre-forward, makes him a perfect fit for both Liverpool and Chelsea.

For Liverpool, Lookman could provide much-needed depth, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s contract and the potential departures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez.
